Our founders, who worked with various rescue groups for years, made the brave, and yes crazy decision to start this unique adventure in the summer of 2022 with the mission of educating people, especially children, about respecting animals and the proper care and health of animals. WPL’s goal was to reduce the number of animals entering shelters and rescues through education. We set off to collect a core group of volunteers, themselves with their own knowledge and experiences working with rescue animals, to make a difference one person and animal at a time.
Our vision has led us to speaking with young ladies involved in local Daisy Troop programs about how to react to unfamiliar dogs/cats, the proper ways to approach animals, and introducing them to a blind special needs dog to show how all animals' matter. We’ve collaborated with local animal shelters, assisting them develop pet parenting classes so new adopters know what to expect when adopting, limiting the return rate of animals to the shelter. We’ve also collaborated on curriculum for classroom outreach to 3rd through 8th grade classrooms teaching the importance of adoptions and programs such as spay/neuter and proper vaccinations as well as emphasizing the unconditional love a pet displays.
In 2023, the facts surrounding abuse of pets in domestic violence situations and the great need for assistance required for women wanting to leave an abusive situation with their pets was brought to our attention. The statistics involving this problem devastated us and we decided to be a positive force towards helping these women and pets. Starting with awareness and graduating to collaborating with and assisting a women’s shelter develop their own pet-fostering pilot program, to include meeting medical needs, behavioral needs, and foster training and support has been a hugely fulfilling effort.
Whiskers, Paws and Love® continues to be a strong advocate for animals - educating the young and old alike, raising awareness of the link between domestic abuse and animal abuse and assisting shelters and women in need. Come support us and remember
